Don Gates Drums/Percussion Piano/Vocals Born and raised in the boston area, Don's xposure to music began early. A piano at home, church choirs, and high school rock and roll bands all eventually evolved into an AA degree in Musicology. After several years in Southern California involved taching, club and studio work, Don found himself backing (on drums) such blues greats as Rod Piazza and Steve Tavalone. Eventually though, a family and business career prevailed, effectively putting music on the back burner. And there the rhythm simmered... cookin' and bubblin'... always under the surface... In the late 90's Don was back on the music scene in Northern California conducting several blues jams at area clubs, tutering students, and promoting and playing with Auburn Drumline, a twelvve to seventeen piece percussion group, playing regional shows and festivals. Currently, Don's busy scheule includes perfroming, teaching and recording, as well as promoting area music events. Until recently he could be found nightly playing in the rhythm sections of such groups as Phatcatz, Frankie Lee, Blues Farm, The Timekeepers, and Probable Cause. As of late, his primary group, The Revolving Doors, takes much of his time as the group is working on original songs for recording while playing at clubs around the greater Sacramento area. | |
